Among the many reasons why Britannia rules the waves is because of Sir Patrick Moore. He presents a monthly astronomy programme called The Sky at Night on the BBC, and has been doing so since 1957. He's the world's longest running TV presenter, and he presented his 650th show this week, which is quite an acheivement, really. It featured an interview with British-born astronaut Piers Sellers, who happens to be my neighbour's brother which is a bit cool. He's only missed one show in almost 50 years, when he caught salmonellosis from a duck egg. Have you ever seen such a fantastic mad scientist? He's 83 years old, smokes a pipe, plays the xylophone and wears a monocle. And Jonti "Weeble" Picking has made up a cartoon about him. That's how cool he is. Beat that, America.
