Koza and Cairo: BFF

I am literally at a loss for words here, people. A 10-week-old lion cub named Koza, who was abandoned by its mother after a difficult C-section that claimed the life of his/her twin, has been given an Italian Mastiff puppy named Cairo as a playmate. The two are happily on display at the San Diego Zoo. Adding another bone-crushing AW! to the already unbearable cuteness is the fact that the Cairo's mom was rescued from Hurricane Katrina (I cannot tell you people how much I cried at all the news footage of people in their flooded houses refusing to leave without their animals and the heartbreaking stories of pet losses and furry reunions).

The pictures of Koza and Cairo are so adorable they might actually kill me. Here is a link to the complete gallery of photos on the San Diego Union Tribune site. And the full story on their site. (via CuteOverload).

And if you just cannot get enough of big cat and dog bestfrienships, then you can read this article about a program in Namibia that relies on the HUMONGOUS Anatolian Shepard dog to protect livestock from cheetahs - which actually ends up saving the cheetah's lives because farmers have no cause to shoot them. Of course one dog adopted an orphaned cheetah and now guards it with a ferocious love (from poisonous snakes and the like). Dying...dying.....

For those in the non-know, BFF stands for best friends forever. It's a bond cemented trading stickers at recess.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!! Sooooo cuuuuute! I want a lion cub now.

So cute, but eerily reminiscent of that Disney film the fox and the hound. And can't these guys accidentally hurt each other as they get older? Wasn't the tiger that nearly killed roy (of sigfried and roy) trying to protect him by dragging him (by the neck) away from evil?

Pish and piddle. Sara, don't share such dark thoughts! Play along. Please?

I'm sorry Anne -- I blame Valentine's day, it has a way of bringing out the cynic in me!

Pish and piddle!?! The language one must endure these days! As for the pics, if they got anymore excessively cute we'd all have to go on insulin in order to cope with all the sugar in our collective bloodstreams.
