See that man over there holding a 55-day-old panda cub? I hate him. I seethe with jealousy (as does Ms. Katie). Not a good way to start the New Year, I know, but I've never really gotten over my desire to be a zoo veterinarian (and I definitely haven't gotten over the allergies that prevented me from pursuing said career).
But enough about me. This freakin' adorable little fur-ball is just one of the 21 pandas born in captivity in China this year. A record for the country's already successful breeding program, which pushed the world-wide total up to 25 thriving cubs in 2005. Pretty good compared to last year's 9 surviving cubs.(Photo AFP)

Yes, cute. Until it turns into a 300 lb. load of sweat, smell and questionable eating habits. Hey, wait, that describes human-babies, too!

Personally, I am offended by any suggestions that the above post indicates I want to steal someone's baby. Unless it is a baby panda.
But this post MAY be used as evidence against me when I apply for a visa to "visit China to write a story about their panda captive breeding program." Pretty transparent, I think, especially with all that breathable, mesh luggage I would be taking. Heh heh.

I'm sorry: Didn't occur to me that my remark on your propensities toward murder and kidnapping would offend. That's the end of me mentioning vile behaviors toward which you seem predisposed. To the extent you understand what a promise is, you have mine.

In response to the original post, it's true. I seethe. I seethe a lot. And yearn. I want a baby panda. Sigh.
