It is a proud day for robot-kind. Honda's Asimo has been upgraded and is officially ready to join the workforce.
Just like anyone else, Asimo will have to start at the bottom and work his way to the top. His current duties include carrying trays of coffee and pushing a small trolley around. And, of course, mincing around like a child in a spacesuit who badly needs the bathroom.
As well as an improved vision system and voice communication system, the new and improved Asimo can run in zig-zags, which should come in handy on his first day on the job.
But the cost of hiring the plucky little helper is 20 million yen ($170,000) a year, which is a tad expensive, even if he can punch though walls and print documents out of his butt. Okay, he can't do that. But I am sure they are working on it.
Check out the way awesome videos of the Mr. Asimo at the Honda site (you need the latest Flash player, but it's totally worth it).
